do you drink alcohol? My doctor's don't seem to say anything when I say I drink occasionally, but I was curious if others did. It doesn't seem to effect my health too much, but I know I should probably just cut it out completely.

i'm currently taking prednisone, plaquenil and azathioprine. i'm going to start rituxan in a few weeks.

I'm 29 and have had ITP and Lupus since I was 16. I was actually in remission from about 18-27 and I've been very sick (off and on) since late 2007.

Anyway, just curious.

I don't drink very often- I think I've had maybe 4 glasses of wine since my diagnosis in January.

While its probably not going to cure you or anything, there are probably much worse things you could do to your body, like relying on refined and processed foods. Do you feel like alcohol may be affecting some aspect of your health?

I can't drink very often because of my meds. I don't really miss it much, but sometimes wish I could have a drink when I'm out. I can if I plan it carefully.

I actually don't feel that alcohol is effecting my health, in a serious way, but I do think it's probably a smart thing for me to quit all together or drink as rarely as you guys have mentioned.

What meds are you on that you can't drink?

Yes, I still drink occasionally a glass of wine or a beer or two. My stomach can't tolerate hard alcohol, it comes right back up. And I do not recommend mixing alcohol + prednisone because it = disaster. I'm usually pretty easy going and happy if I have a glass of wine, however adding prednisone to the mix is a whole other story.

I became a ragin *itch, (sorry can I write that), or I became extremely depressed. I think after 2 or 3 psychotic episodes, I decided I wouldn't drink until I was through with prednisone. I'd recommend you avoid the mix while you are on medication.

But to answer your question I don't recall my counts dropping as a result of drinking beer or wine.

I guess the answer to my question is, I should probably just cut it out and keep a healthier lifestyle.

I believe a good word is: moderation.

You have to have fun in life too. Just don't get too drunk and don't do it too often.

I don't drink very often becuase I know it is a blood thinner, although I have never been told by a doctor to avoid it. I do enjoy a glass of rum or scotch every once in a while though. I used to drink a lot of beer when I was younger but due the the booze combined with the atkins diet I ended up in the hospital with pancreatitis. I cut back to nearly no booze after that.
