lupus?

Hannah has had strange sores on her head that keep coming and going. From what I remember she has them more in the summer. Sometimes there are none, sometimes up to 8. The first time she told me they were itchy, now she says they are just very sore, not itchy. Last year they looked a bit like bites, but now they are bigger about 1.5cm wide, flat, yellow in places with red bits. In places it looks like she has scratched it but she says she hasn't. It is really bothering her and where one was last year the hair hasn't grown back (luckily it was a small one). I have seen two doctors and both said they had no idea. I'm wondering if anyone could tell me if it sounds like lupus?

It could be several things. Psoriasis, etc. She'd need them biopsied by a dermatologist to know for sure.

They could also be Discoid Lupus which is totally different than Systemic Lupus. Discoid mainly affects skin whereas Systemic can cause tissue and organ damage.

I have discoid lupus and that doesn't really sound like the lesions. They are typically round, depressed, with a center that might scab a bit, reddish. If you tap on it or bump it, it would be painful but not painful to touch. Itchy at times. I've never seen them splotchy or yellow. On the head is a place there could be lupus lesions - usually along the part line, or maybe behind the ears. Also exposed parts of arms and hands. Does she get hair loss around them, that would be typical too.

You can google any kind of skin thing with google images. Be careful you can't un-see things it gets pretty explicit.

Also = lupus lesions will usually respond well to a cortisone ointment.

Thank you for your replies. That's put my mind at rest.

Melinda, she is 8. She's had ITP since she was two with counts always less than 30.

Oh she's so young. Sorry she has ITP!

I think I'd do what Sandi said, when the sores on her head are there I'd take her to a dermatologist to check them.

Best wishes!
