I don't know if you all have looked into Salonpas pain patches OTC, but I have been using them for some of my Fibro/Lupus pain in my muscles mainly my thighs and my neck or back, but mainly on the front of my thighs. And they actually kind of help, not massively, but it does help. The patches has menthol and smell like it, but I think it smells more like winterfresh gum or something. Then it also has an NSAID it in it, and together it kind of feels like Icy/hot rub. I got the smaller patches at first, and then I ordered the large size for my thighs and it just takes away a little bit of the linger pain I get in my thighs at the end of the day. They are in no way comparable to my main pain killers but I thought I'd share with you all! I got mine on Amazon.com

I've seen those advertised. I used to use the Icy Hot patches all the time, but got tired of it after a while and haven't used any of them. Maybe I'll give these a try.
