Has anyone tried nursing the child who has ITP? Does breastmilk make any difference since it has antibodies, so technically could act like IVIG. I have not seen any articles on any study.

I am nursing my younger child and my older one (who has ITP) was weaned a while ago. I was thinking that may be my older one would be benefited by breastmilk.

When my son was first diagnosed he was 14 months old....I was still breastfeeding him at that point and continued until he was almost 2. After 1 treatment of IVIG his counts were normal for over a year. I don't really know if nursing helped with it at all....but with ITP there are so many questions unanswered. I just felt that the longer I did it the more he would benefit from it.

Unfortunantly in our case his counts took a nose dive again last Nov and since then we have had counts all over the place.

Hi Ali,

Devyn is doing good...his last count was 110,000 4 weeks ago. He is due for another CBC in the next two weeks. Since his last count was done his bruising has been very limited so i'm hoping that it means his count has been good. Although... we are now in the cold and flu season and that seems to be when Devyns counts crash big time....keeping my fingers crossed that this year will be different :) I've took your advice and started a little journal of his symptoms and how he is doing. Such an amazing idea!!

I've been meaning to post an update on here.....i check in everyday to see how everyone is doing. we have been busy planning a small fundraiser to raise money and awarness for ITP. We were supposed to do it this past week but we all got a nasty cold and since our fundraiser involves baking food, we figured we should probably postpone it. So now we just have to pick another date....

How have things been with all of you? I see that Dougie is still holding at around 30. Does he have to go for test more frequenty now or is it still the same. I hope that he makes one of his incredible jumps back up to triple digits soon!!!

Hi Deanna

Its lovely to hear that Devyn is doing so well at the moment - fingers crossed for you that it continues!

Dougie is still doing absolutely fine. BUT, his lack of symptoms around 30K is slightly freaking ME!!! I think its because I used to be able to tell his count quite accurately looking at his symptoms, and I can't at the moment. The symptoms he used to get around 30K were clearly a symptom of up and down, not of 30K by itself. The hospital are still happy to test 3 monthly, but I am taking him in for a count on Monday because, with no other symptoms at all, he had some huge random bruises on his feet last week - no idea what caused them, they were on the top of his feet, between his toes....... Really weird, because he fell over when we were ice skating at the weekend and didn't bruise at all. So I am sure it will be ok. ITP is just strange!!!!

Best of luck with Devyns next count anyway, Ali :)
