IVIG and 4yr. old Vaccinations was created by jlollman
Hi guys,

Had a question, my son recently had IVIG on Friday and I asked about vaccinations. The nurse said I should do them right after IVIG to prevent a drop in counts.
I have read recently that you should wait because the IVIG will just attach to those antibodies and the vaccination will not be effective. Any thoughts? Did your kids drop with their vaccinations?
I plan on calling the doctor but I was wondering what you all did.

THanks!

Julie

My son still needs his 2.5 year old shots - we were told my our haemo not to gvie him the immunisations and to do a catch-up program later because of the immunosuppresants (streoids) they get bring the immune system down enough without adding immunisation. He's three next month.

One thing I have learned through the last 6 years is that everyone has their own opinion about immunizations and flu shots. Our doctor has always given the shots necessary. My advise is to follow your doctor's lead (as long as you are generally comfortable with his course of treatments). There are so many school of thoughts that I am not sure there is a black and white answer.

Hope this helps.

I spoke to our Hematologist in regards to the 4yr vaccinations. She said that you have to wait at least 9 months after receiving IVIG for the vaccinations to be effective and this was double checked through the centers for disease so we are waiting as of now.

The Hep-B vaccine gave us ITP. We don't vaccinate anymore. The vaccine gave us a disease.
