Hello all,

I have an almost 4yr old that has been dealing with ITP since the end of February. So far he has needed treatment once a month.
I am curious how many of you with children under 5 had a remission in under a year? Also, was this remission spontaneous or did it occur slowly..
I sure thought we would not be dealing with this after 6months according to everyone and the stats.
Lately he seems harder to be able to predict.He has been sick quite a bit lately and it has made a mess of his numbers. He did go up some on his own with them though. He was at 145k on Monday after a virus and then dropped to 40 in 3days. 40k is better than 20k but personally I like him to be above 50k. :) I did not see any off counts with the white or red counts so I am not sure what has caused the drop. I was hoping we would be done with this by the start of school!!

I have a 4yr old on ITP past 1 yr (had 1 IvIg,rest few winrho & doing wait & watch),her count was stuck at 75K past 2 mths ..Usually if they r sick the counts go down maybe the viral triggers it again.

I am curious to know what treatment ur son gets a mth????

We treat when he goes under 20, we have only used IVIG. He does very well with it. The Children's we use is steering away from Winroh and steroids.

ITP does what it wants, there are no rules. Children can recover quickly or it might take a while. Try not to pay attention to the statistics. There are many children who have appeared to be chronic because of the length of time they have had ITP, but they did remit after a few years and are doing great. Try not to set time limits, just take things as they come.
