Most of the time i visit this site to read. The sharing of parents is a whole lot of information already.Just a few questions that i want to be clarified based on experiences of many parents here, please. My daughter, will be 6years old next month was diagnosed with ITP March last year. She was treated with prednisone oral and intravenous(methyl prednisolone) and IVIG July last year, all of which did not have a good reaction as far as her ITP is concerned. Since July last year,i usually subject my daughter to regular CBC to check her platelet ( range from 20 to 59). Fortunately, she is not a bleeder, just a few bruises in her arm or legs. She did not received any treatment since her IVIG last July (it really drained our finances!)until May this year.During our visit last month, she was again advised to take oral prednisone..and will visit her doctor this weekend for check-up, Just wondering, aside from CBC/platelet count,Bone marrow asperation (BMA) what other laboratory test must be done to detect what is causing my daughter's ITP? --if there's any. Second,as long as there's no bleeding (nose/gum/urine/stool) how comfortable is it to adapt the watch and wait method? Honestly, i am so worried on the possible effect of medications to her little body plus doctors are not giving assurance on the effectivity of any medications, the way i understand it --it's a trial, the result always depends on the reaction on the patient! :(
Thanks so much

There aren't any tests to determine the cause of ITP. There is no known cause. Most people here have an idea what may have triggered it (a medication, an illness, etc.), but it can't be proven.

A lot of parents choose the watch and wait over treating. If your daughter doesn't have any symptoms and you are comfortable with that, it's your decision.
