Dougie's last three counts - the good (44), the bad (15) and today, the completely indifferent (29). Never mind, I think 29 is reasonable, it'll let him carry on pretty much as normal.
The paediatrician completely disagrees with the GP about the idea of Osgood-Schlatters syndrome, and still seems to think he's got something going on with his knees that is more than a skeletal problem. He's sending him to see the eye doctor - I didn't quite catch why this would be, but it was something about arthritis sometimes affecting the eyes. I am not at all clear why he thinks this is a possibility since he himself said that Dougie's rheumatology tests came back completely clear. The good thing is that Doug's knees have been loads better this week. He described them as still being "ouch", but not "argh" - I knew EXACTLY what he meant!
I also got a phone call from the haematologist about Roger today. Unfortunately she can't discharge him yet because when she did the blood tests, although the elements that were wrong before (lymphocytes and platelets) were back at the low side of normal, other things were wrong - neutrophils and clotting screen (?not sure if I heard this right). I reckon Roger had fixed it to get another morning off school! The ridiculous thing is that we now have to take him all the way back to Liverpool just to get another blood test - apparently the NHS's multi-billion pound ICT system doesn't allow a consultant in one hospital to order a blood test in another hospital!!!! I can't believe this is true, maybe the consultant just doesn't know how to do it......I might try her secretary tomorrow.
Yours in frustration! Ali
