Allergies as a possible trigger

Allergies as a possible trigger was created by augirl
Hi all, .
My son Will was diagnosed with ITP on April 12th, 2007 at the age of 14 months. He had IVIG in April, May, July, and August of 2007. His platelets started bouncing around for the next 6 months. He finally had normal counts from January 2008 until April 10th, 2010 when I noticed lots of bruises and his count was down to 42,000. He has since had one IVIG on May 4th and the counts were on the way down to 40,000 a week ago and today they were 228,000.

I have done some research on allergies. We live in a valley so outdoor allergies are the norm. Well the pollen count in our area was historically high at 5000 on March 27, 2007 and the counts were up to 3,789 at the end of March/beginning of April 2010. These numbers are classified as "very high concentration" on the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology pollen measurement.

The reason I am posting is that I was interested to see if anyone else has seen allergies affect your children's platelet counts.

My doc does want us to see an allergist but we will wait till we have some consistent normal counts.

Thank you!

We had a gentleman who used to post on the old boards that after moving and doing a round of allergy shots, his platelets went back to a low normal or safe range.

I gave in and did the allegy shots myself in hopes that reducing the overall allergen load might help the immune system stop fighting itself. Didn't do anything for the platelets, but I've had a lot fewer sinus infections and don't suffer as much with the allergies.
