Timothy update and the Professor from heaven

Okay, so Timothy is at 202k this week...we are on a trend! He is holding with three weeks in a row of 4 mcs per kilo. He is being a stinking grump, though (oh well, can't win them all) and manipulative as all get out, but that's for another discussion board, right?

Also, on a good note, before the negative note: I have a new statistics professor. He's awesome. Not only is he very good, but he promised today, "If you are going to miss class on Tuesday, make sure you come to the review on Wednesday. Whatever I write on the board will be on the test Thursday. If I write a 7 on the board, it will be 7 on the test. If I write an 8, it will be an 8. If you fail the test, I'll let you take it again." I might get an A in this class.
Now the bad news:

One thing I want to warn you all-throw away your bb guns if you have them. If you're parents have them in their attics, get rid of them. Be careful at yard sales and flea markets. My son (the healthy one, Isaac, who is 15, is with his dad right now and he was at a flea market with a friend. The friend picked up a bb gun and said, "its not loaded". He shot him through the cornea! Catastrophic eye injury. My son has a copper bb embedded beside his optic nerve that went through the cornea, destroyed a small part of his iris and exited the back of his eye. He has lost most of his vision in that eye as a result. It is possible he will lose the eye altogether, though I am fighting for him to keep it. They were talking about yanking it right away, but I said, "whoa nelly!" Now they give him more hope. But the only vision he has is light and shadow and movement in front of his face. He has a risk of losing sight in the other eye too because the immune system at times attacks the other eye with catastrophic eye injuries. I just wanted to warn you all-get rid of those terrible things! They are dangerous.

BTW, Isaac will be coming home because his dad can't care for his new medical needs.

Sorry to read about the eye injury. If you can cope with another forum, there's the Lost Eye forum where others have found support with both lost vision and lost eyes.

Hi Donna,

I am so, so sorry to hear about Isaac's accident. It must be devastating for all concerned. I hope he is coping ok - he is lucky to have the support of a very strong and caring family and a mum who seems to just keep going regardless of any knocks life throws at her. I'm not a religious person, but I will be "hoping" that the next few weeks bring better news for you.

Regarding Tim's mood, I just wanted to reassure you that my 16 year old son is just the same - moody, lazy, twists everything we say, manipulates every situation to get what he wants........ I think he believes he exists in a parallel world where the normal rules of courtesy and compromise don't apply! Its just ALL about him. Last weekend he stayed out until 2 in the morning (well over anything he had agreed with us) and finding the door locked, climbed up a drainpipe and the roof to get in his bedroom window - if he had slipped, no one would have known about it because we were all asleep. However, he's getting a bit of a shock this week, because me and his dad have both stopped reacting or compromising ourselves - the internet is turned off unless we want it, his transport is very limited, and pocket money is most definitely not forthcoming. He is so difficult to live with that on occasions I wish he would leave home, but equally I know that he is too immature to cope, so I guess we are stuck with him!

On a lighter note, how did your stats exam go? I had to do stats when I was studying for my accountancy qualification and I found it REALLY hard going.

Best wishes, Ali

Ali,
Thanks for the words of encouragement. Sometimes I think Tim is the worst kid ever, and a majorly messed up teen, but I'm starting to realize he's within the norm. Isaac is doing better and for now he still has his eye with very, very little vision (not functional).

My stats exam...I dropped stats early in the semester because it looked like I was not going to pass. I am taking it right now as a summer course. I have a VERY good professor and he is really making it nearly impossible to fail. I think I'm going to do well. I have an exam on Thursday coming, and I think I should at least pass...I hope to do very well. I'll let you know :silly:

Michelle,
LOL!! Yes, I am SOMETHING, lol...I'm not sure what, ha. Yes, I've been in school for a while. I was a music performance and psychology double major. I'm nearly done with both, but I dropped the music major so I could finish sooner. I'm now a psychology major with a music minor. After this summer I have about five classes left! I should finish by May, God willing and the creek don't rise (as they say in the hills of WV-where I was raised). I actually got a 95% on my Statistics exam and 100% on both homeworks! Crazy!!! I have another exam this week, a few more homeworks (maybe two or three, or four and two more exams) and then two and one half weeks left and I'm done with stats! I can't believe it. I could pull this off with an A, or B possibly. Never thought it possible. Those who pray, please do...those who don't, I'll take your good thoughts:)

OMG, i must have overlookes this post! How is Isaac doing now? This same thing happened to someone we know, also with a bb gun. The other boy endes up having a corneal transplant and sees fine now. That happened about two years ago. My best friend's nephew was the one who pulled the trigger and both boys were 16 at the time. Her nephee felt so guilty that he turned to drugs and really beat himself up about it. So im sorry to hear of this happening to someone else! I also personally experienced lost vision with retinal detachments and it is a scary thing to go through. After my 5th surgery, i lost alot of vision in my left eye and am legally blind but have strong enough contacts/glasses to correct it. So when i dont have those or my hearing aid in, i am deaf and blind but at least i sleep well! :)

Good luck finishing up! You've gotten this far and you can do it! Dont let anything get in your way of finishing up! I know how difficult it is to go to school with kids. Mine were 5 & 6 when i graduated and i thank the Lord everyday for that because of my awesome job today!

Praying for Isaac because it has to be such an adjustment for him! :(
