Symptoms question was created by Amandabphillips
My 2 year old son has had ITP for about a year now and throughout that year we kind of became experts on what low counts looked like for him (symptoms wise) and every time his counts fell to 30, 20, 10, etc. we would notice an increase in bruising and petichia and sometime some minor bleeding. However, we went for a blood draw a couple weeks ago (we usually go once a month) and his numbers were down to 50 from the upper 80s yet he has no bruising or petechia
. Since that draw he still looks great-so my question is.....can you have low counts but minimal symptoms and is this a good or a bad sign? When he's been at 50 in the past he looked like he had a low platelet count but right now he looks great! In the past when he started getting a lot of bruises I would be on "high alert" so It's weird to me to have no outward signs of where he may be at.
Any input is really appreciated! this disorder sure is a mystery to me!

Yes, it is possible to have low counts and no symptoms. That is considered to be a good thing. The only thing that is predictable about ITP is that it is unpredictable. Every time you think you know what is going on, things change.
