Jenny - Danica never complains about sore legs or muscles. I have not really heard of anyone else say that about their kids - perhaps it is related to itp, but I would think that it isn't.

Wishing you and Liam all the best

Brady complains periodically about his legs hurting. It's usually when he's going to bed at night. When I've brought it up to his pediatrician, he says he thinks it's basically "growing pains," where he's having a growth spurt and the tendons are stretching or something. The doctor has said that he isn't concerned unless it's pain that is waking Brady up at night, which it never has. I guess I've just accepted his explanation and don't think it's related to ITP, but who knows?...

I hope Liam's count bounces back.

Beth - mom to Brady, age 13(diagnosed 1/18/02)

Beth - mom to Brady (age 19, diagnosed 1/18/02) and Matthew (age 21)

Hi Jenny

25K isn't that bad! I think it might be roughly where Dougie is at the moment, and I keep reminding myself how pleased I would have been if he'd have had that count last summer. I think that your strategy of not expecting much is a good one too - I am going to try it myself!

Dougie often complains about his legs and feet hurting since he had ITP, but like Brady's haematologist, I've always put it down to growing pains or something. It was one of the really noticeable things about when he first had ITP - he used to get up in the morning and complain that his knees or ankles were hurting. Recently he has had trouble with his ankles a lot and oddly one of his big toes. We actually asked the doctor last time we went to see him (mid February)and he said that he could feel the joint grinding in its socket rather than moving smoothly. He didn't seem that bothered about it, but as it is still bothing Dougie, I am going to bring it up when we wee the specialist in Manchester next week - LOL, theres a whole LIST of stuff I need to remember for that appointment!!! When his platelets drop below 30K or so he also sometimes gets very tired and then he complains that his legs feel weak and jelly like. I've mentioned it before and no-one seems that worried, but I'll let you know if Dougie's doctor says anything about it anyway.

Good luck in the next few weeks anyway, Ali
