I am so happy, I finally figured out how to get my info on the bottom of my posts. Yippee!!! Seriously, this IS ground breaking for me.

Hope all you guys and your kids are having a terrific Easter. maybe the Easter Bunny will bring platelets with the chocolate.

Danica looks like crap. Even though she just had ivig on Thursday, she has such black circles under her eyes. I have promised her that I WOULD NOT take her blood this week, and that we would wait until next Monday when she starts the Decadron again. She looks like she should have a low count, but I know that history has shown that she gets a good increase after the ivig.

I just keep blaming the decadron for everything. Perhaps there is some lingering effects from it???

You are all in my prayers

Michelle - mom to Danica - age 13
Diagnosed 8-6-09
No response with Prednisone, WinRho or Rituximab.
over 60 IVIg infusions (every two weeks)
Three Decadron pulses - count was up while on the Decadron, and then fell as soon as it was stopped. SPLENECTOMY done 7-June-2011 Last count 594

Michelle,

When you think about it, Danica's body has been through an awful lot in the last year - ITP and treatments. Decadron sounds particularly nasty, and it would be surprising if all that didn't take it out of her. What happens when you don't treat at all, is that at all feasible for a while?

I think that being able to do blood tests yourself must be a double edged sword - on the one hand it is easy and convenient, but on the other hand, it must be difficult to stop yourself doing it all the time. I can see occasions when it would be useful though, and as you say, when she had the winrho, your instinct was really great. Do you just do a thumb prick or do you do it properly? Dougie has only had thumb pricks for about 7-8 months now, and the veins in his arm seem to be finally recovering - they were very raised for a while.

I hope that the decadron next week works better this time, and that Danica manages to cope

I always do a blood draw - but I use a butterfly needle because it is smaller.

Yes, all of this stuff over the course of the last 10 months has got to take its toll on her, especially the decadron.

Our hematologist has never suggested to just watch and wait, and frankly, sometimes I think about trying that, but she gets such petechiae as soon as she is low. Maybe that will be a risk we will have to take someday. I guess if she suggests it, we should consider it.

Dr. Devaraj has spoken to at least 5 other hematologists about her, and none of them have suggested that. Maybe they will one day.

Right now, I just want to get through these next two rounds of Decadron.

AAAArgh
