Hello,

Evelyn is three years old. She recently wa taken off her steroids and has been doing quite well with platelet counts. Her last one was last Tuesday and it was 100,000. However, I am noticing an increasingly irritable child and moody child. Could this be to low platelet count. Her mood was consistent with this right before she was diagnosed and had a platelet count of 1,000. She has a cold too, I am wondering if that is affecting her platelet levels. I would appreciate any insight! Thanks!

A cold could affect platelet levels. How long has she been off of Prednisone?

Coming off of Prednisone can affect mood. People can feel very fatigued for weeks after tapering off.

I hope she gets better soon!

My son is 7 and was diagnosed in September. I notice a drastic change in his moods when is platelets are low. His face becomes very pale and he gets very fatigued and moody. His platelets are always below 5. He had a bone marrow biopsy done recently and he received a platelet transfusion. The days following, all his colour returned to his face and his energy and mood was great...I believe there is a direct relation between the two an although there isn't much evidence (some doctors say) I believe there is....I have also spoke with other parents of children with itp who's experience is the same.

Well it's known that fatigue often goes with ITP and the low count so it's quite understandable that a child would feel irritable if they can't do the things that they normally are able to do.
