The board has been a bit slow lately, but I can tell you that over the years, there have been quite a few children who have seemed to acquire ITP after an MMR vaccine. ITP is one of the listed side effects of the vaccine.

I needed to get an MMR booster or something to start a job working at a hospital. My medical records that I had from my childhood only listed two shots out of the three that you're supposed to have had so they said just to be safe they'd give me another one. I got ITP not long after but I've never looked into that as being connected.

Researchers estimate that about one in every 22,000 MMR vaccinations could result in a child developing a temporary bleeding disorder called idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). ITP is rarely dangerous— generally much less serious than measles, mumps, or rubella — and is easily treated. A recent study found that children who had ITP and later received the MMR vaccine had no vaccine-associated recurrences.

Instead of getting a vaccine, you can ask to have a titer done to see if you have immunity to a certain illness. It's a simple blood test. My daughter also works at a hospital and has an autoimmune disorder. She has her titers tested periodically and if she is still good, she does not get the vaccine.

Thanks, sorry to hear about your son. There is no direct link with MMR for us because she wasn't tested until a few months after the vaccine. I think it is likely my daughter got it although our doctors don't like to make the connection.

That is exactly why I think the percentage of adverse vaccine events are under-reported.

My daughter reacted to the MMR shot ( fever and sick for a week) and 5-6 months later got diagnosed with itp.
