How tired do your children with ITP get?

Hannah has been struggling with tiredness recently. Today she couldn't get out of bed this morning and I ended up getting her dressed as she was so tired. We got home from school at 3:30 and got her PJs on and brought her duvet downstairs straight away and laid on the sofa until bedtime. She was constantly yawning and I've never seen her look so tired before.

Is it normal for your children to be that tired?

Hi, My daughter gets super super tired when her platelets are low. Plenty of others report the same thing. She doesn't get quite as tired as your daughter -- but maybe your daughter is also growing at the same time (?) -- or this is just the way it is for her. I find it frustrating that the doctors are constantly amazed that the fatigue is "real." We were in teh hospital yesterday for a rituxan treatment and the hema on call just thought it was the wierdest thing. "Why would that be?" ARGGGG Have you ever talked to your patients I wanted to say?! Anyway: our hema knows it is one of the first signs for our daughter that the numbers are plummeting.

Wising you high platelets!

Firkins (mom of Zoe (15) and Mia (13). Mia has ITP. Diagnosed 3/2012.

My two-year-old was diagnosed about three weeks ago (platelet count of four; so far untreated). He used to be a ball of manic energy, but now it seems like he burns through his energy and ends up tired a bit sooner each day. On the plus side, at least it's curbing his more reckless behavior and making him want to snuggle more. Still, it's weird and sad and worrying.

My son will have moments where he is like "I just need to rest" but all in all he is still always bouncing off the walls.

No, activity levels do not really affect platelet counts.

My 18 yo struggles with fatigue. Her counts are in the 7 range, thankfully she is not having any major bleeding issues but she is having some annoying minor bleeding and is tired. She struggles to stay awake after 8pm and does have days where she is content to just lay on the couch after school and not move. The doctors ask her about fatigue and headaches as well as bleeding symtopms.
