I've read on this forum that you should really have a Dr that specialises in ITP.
How do I find one? We live in Melbourne, Australia

Thank you,

Jackie

Hi Jackie,
I have been wondering the same here in SA.
I only saw a haematologist at a blood pathology centre once, then under care of GP for 7 years. After a nose bleed incident 3 years ago I was referred to a Physician, however I am rather frustrated at not having specialized ITP care. Most of the haemotologists advertised seem to specialize in oncology issues. There is an ITP specialist in Sydney that several Australian ITP people have seen. A bit far for me! & I gather he is very hard to get into. (We used to have a 'chat' room weekly & it was discussed regularly - 'chat' now on facebook & I won't go there)
I will ask my GP next time I have a check up if she can find out if any one is available (or how I can).

Hi MJ - yes its a bit frustrating.

My daughter was diagnosed in Feb. We are under her Immunologist at the RCH (who is fantastic as A & I), but very wary when it comes to ITP. Only concerned in getting numbers to a 'normal' count, not symptoms. Steph has had so much pred!
Hopefully things are about to change. We saw our first Haemotologist on Thursday, who also is mainly paediatric oncology, but its a step in the right direction.

Back to the routine wait and see approach......

Cheers,
Jac
