We have always been told that petechiae normally happens on legs and ankles. Hannah gets a lot of petechiae where she has rubbed against things or scratched herself in various places all over her body, but the one place I can't quite understand is how she often has it all arround her neck. Does anyone elses child get petechiae all arround their neck? How could that happen as she's not putting a skipping rope arround or anything similar?

I always wonder that too. I'm not a parent, but an adult with itp. For some reason, I always get them on my neck and I have no idea why. Could it be the amount of blood vessels there are in that area or how close to the skin they are possibly. I also have a cluster on my chin. I can't explain that one either. My legs can be explained, my little dogs are always climbing and scratching especially when wearing shorts.

My ITP teen would get petechiae wherever clothing seems pressed or rubbed. She had an imprint on her buttocks from the jeans pocket seams, and on the back of her neck from a tee shirt label. Are you sure she's not playing with a rough friend?

I've never had them on legs and feet. I had them on the backs of my hands and on my chest. I have no idea why and never thought to question it. That's just where they decided to go.

My 4 year old always has them on her legs, trunk, feet, neck, arms. The doc won't do anything unless she has serious bruising or bleeding. Which keeps us both on edge, especially after my hospitalization.

Maybe I am careless. She gets blood work once a month or every two. We watch her and check her over daily. Am I horrible?

No. It's perfectly acceptable to watch and wait with children. If you are not going to treat her anyway, why know the count? You are very aware of the situation and know what to look for.
