Anyone with ITP had Chicken Pox or Shingles while having ITP? Matix was diagnosed today with Varicella, not sure if it is shingles or chicken pox because the lesions are painful. He was vaccinated.

Varicella is chicken pox. When was he vaccinated? Has he been on Prednisone or any other immunosuppressant?

Varicella is actually the same virus that causes Chicken pox and Shingles. Either way, he was vaccinated, received both vaccines, and has not been on any meds since January. He catches EVERYTHING!!!

Poor kid. If he's been on Prednisone, that can make him very susceptible to chicken pox. I hope he recovers soon.

No Steroids since January! Hoping this doesn't drop his platelets too low because they told me that he can not be treated with steroids if it drops while having the virus.

Prednisone can stay in your system for a long time. I was always afraid to take my kids to the pediatrician when I was on steroids because of the possibility of exposure to chicken pox. This was before the vaccine and all kids got chicken pox.

My kids got chicken pox from my Mom who had shingles. She had been on chemo and Prednisone. She swears it's the other way around (she got it from them), but apparently, it doesn't work that way from what I've read.

Ok just a bit of information for you!

Chicken pox shingles are the same virus the differences are:

Chicken pox - you are contagious while you are breaking out and until the lesions are no longer weeping. It can spread all over the entire body and is itchy. Usually a fever is notice at the start of the onset. Mainly a childhood disease

Shingles - follows nerve endings can start out with an itch and become extremely painful or can just be painful. Most common spot a line that runs from the back to the side of your torso in the general area of your lowest rib. Mainly seen in Adults. There is treatment that if started early can lesson the effects.

Also you need to know it is a live vaccine which means you can get it from the vaccine. The other thing people don't realize is that even with a vaccine you can still acquire the illness although they say it is supposed to lesson the severity.

about all I can remember worked nights.
