Petchiae in mouth was created by crystal lee
First I have always wondered are blisters worse than petchiae in the mouth? We were told if mouth breaks out give pred because the mouth is a window to the inside, but I haven't seen blisters since probably May (fingers crossed) and I hope that is a good thing. Of coarse NOT having blisters is good, I just hope petchiae isn't equally as bad.

My question today is, can coughing cause petchiae on roof and back of mouth?? His mouth looks horrible, but only on top and back, cheeks tongue gums look good, even when brush no bleeding from gums. He has a cold and has been coughing, I read all the time excessive coughing, vomiting and crying can cause it around the eyes but can't find anything about the mouth.

Crystal,

I don't think petechiae are as bad, and I do think that coughing could cause that......but if you are in the slightest bit worried, then phone the doctor. Its always best to be safe than sorry, and it will stop you worrying. If he has a bug, then that could easily lower his count.

Thanks,
I had already called this morning, but you wait for a call back that might not be until Monday, which he has an appointment Monday.
Coughing is common so I thought maybe if it was caused by coughing someone would of been through that, and told it could happen..

So I guess we wait and watch...Or give Pred which I really don't wanna do especially being sick already...Ahhh why didn't I marry a doctor???

When my daughters counts have dropped very low like 2,000 she has red dots in her mouth. I now know that and I'm constantly looking in her mouth. She gets blood dots everywhere . If the doctor does not call back soon, I would go to the er and have a platelet count done. That is just my personal opinion. I would like to know of they are low or of everything is fine. If they are low then maybe the hospital could contact the hemo. I wish you the best and please keep us posted.

Thanks Bell, they did call back yesterday, coughing can cause it so of coarse watch him..treatment doesn't work for him, so a count of 0 we are just sent home (just knowing he that low and worrying EVEN MORE.) They leave it to me when to give the pred (which does not do anything for count, only suppose to help his vessels or something) and I persoanlly hate it..I much rather be told what to do when it comes to my children and medicines, but they feel I know when it is needed :S

Crystal,
Are you saying he's at zero right now, or just that he has been in the past?
Is he actively bleeding from the mouth, or just petechiae?

Here's an easy thing you can try if he's bleeding from the mouth, and something nearly everyone has on hand:
Another natural item that can help stop bleeding is black tea bags. The tannins in black tea help the blood coagulate faster. Apply wet tea bags to the cut. Tea bags are especially good for cuts inside the mouth.

Hope his appointment on Monday brings good news.
