6 years and finally a "normal count" was created by astahl
Hi everyone - It has been literally years since I was on this site. But I thought I would post on our experience. My son, Josh, was diagnosed at age 5 with ITP. His counts were under 10K for about a year, then slowly (and I mean slowly) rose on their own. At age 1l, last fall, he got his first count of 150K and was released from seeing the hematologist annually.
We never treated as we had drs. that took a "European" view of ITP (Phoenix Children's) and Josh was not a bleeder. At times I thought he would never have a normal count. Life went on and I fell away from the discussion boards..but I thought I would post for those of you that have been newly diagosed as chronic. We will are to keep a eye out for unusual bruising, but so far so good! :)

Amy what were Josh's counts like in the intervening period, were there fluctuations or did they only climb during the 6 years?

His counts are as follows -
In May I noticed he had a golf size lymph node on his neck and I took him to dr. That is why we were fortunate enough to have counts done in May. I believe it is the virus (or whatever he had that caused the swollen lymph nodes) is what triggered ITP.

Thank you for the detailed counts.
Delighted for Josh and family that he is doing so well, it is good to see a success story for chronic ITP,
