Experienced ITPer's---I need help! was created by littletinkgirl
How is it possible to have petechia if the platelet counts are normal--195? Picked Brooke up from daycare today and she has three clusters of spots--one the back of her upper arm and two on her chest. She has a little bruising but nothing major. I know everyone has different symptoms at different levels, but her levels are normal. I am SO confused. Can anyone shed some light on this for me??????

Thanks,
Madison

Madison:

I've had petechiae with normal counts. I don't know why. Coughing can cause it, laughing too hard, vomiting, etc. My husband had it horribly all around his eyes from choking one day. I think that normal peole get them occassionally, but we don't look for them and don't notice. Even if we did see them (Pre-ITP), we probably wouldn't know what they were and life would just go on.

As long as her counts are okay, don't worry.
