Bleeding

Bleeding was created by grasshopper
This sounds like a really silly question, but if your child cuts themselves do they bleed for a really long time? Our haematologist initially said that she could, then when we said she bleed for 1.5 days after a small cut she seemed to be saying that shouldn't happen. I'm just curious as the haematogolist doesn't seem totally conviced that it's ITP and lots of websites don't mention that on the list of symptoms, but they do for other bleeding disorders.

Bleeding 1.5 days from a small cut would be very unusual for Brady. Actually, when I think about it he doesn't cut himself much - we see more bruising on him. But he gets finger sticks and when his count is low (less than 20k) his finger will slightly bleed for a while but not more than an hour. If we apply good pressure to a cut I would say it won't be bleeding more than an hour or two. But of course everyone is different, so it's hard to say if something else is going on with your daughter.

Yes we bleed for a long time but one and a half days is exceptionally long. I cut my finger at work the other day and it bled for about half an hour with a tissue wrapped round it. I'd say that was long enough. But at the same time when my count is below 10 I can have an oozing nose for days. I assumed that was because I can't put direct pressure on the nose whereas I can with the finger. But if you were putting constant pressure on the cut and it still bled for over a day, I'd think that was unusual.

I think that is unusual too. I've cut my legs shaving with low counts and it never bled that long, especially a small cut.
