LOL, there was me thinking that Dougie had had a good couple of weeks, only petechiae and 1 nosebleed. Then it occurred to me that he has been wearing tracksuit trousers and long sleeved jumpers all week despite the fact that the weather is good for once. And surprise, surprise.....further investigation reveals some really lovely bruises! So I guess under 10K again.

Oh Ali! I haven't logged in for quite a while and was wondering how Dougie was doing-not the news I was hoping to read! I'm praying these kiddos can pack on some platelets this summer-and enjoy some much needed freedom :)

Hi LaMonica
It wasn't really a surprise - Dougie has mostly been below 20K since Christmas. However, for some reason I don't understand, I still constantly think that this week is going to be the week when things get better. I must be simple! I need to start thinking longer term about ITP. I've worked out why Dougie was so keen to hide the bruises - he wanted to go on an end of term school trip to the theme park next week. We've had to say no, but we've promised him and some friends a trip to play laser quest instead. Not quite the same as Alton Towers, but a reasonable substitute I hope. In the meantime, he's spent the day playing a massive waterfight round the neighbourhood with a big group of his friends.

Hows Camden doing? Still playing basketball I hope. Dougie is really enjoying basketball recently and fortunately on our last trip to see the consultant, he agreed that he could continue playing almost regardless of his count. We are going back in the Autumn with a view to trying some treatment - at least to allow Dougie to go skiing in the Spring half term with his school.

Anyway, I hope that Camden and you are enjoying the summer

Ali :)

A waterfight sounds perfect! I think your positive outlook is wonderful-the HOPE of a cure/remission/med help is often on my mind :) I will be anxious to hear what you find out this Autumn w/ a new sport/ski season hitting.
Camden had a cold for most of the spring and into summer-keeping his count in the 60,000 range. Now that summer has finally hit the Pacific NW, his cold is gone and his counts and nose bleeds are back. Thankfully his counts have surprised us and stayed near 40,000. He has aspirations to zip-line in Hawaii this summer, so it looks like his counts will be fine-he just needs to gain some weight to make the 80 pd minimum!! We are feeding him Haagen Daz ice cream and fattening foods to get those last 5 pounds. I wish I could give him some of my hips and platelets ;) The specialist asked us to come in and discuss the zip-line adventure, as well as fall sports before our trip, so we'll get another count in the next few weeks. It would help if he had some kind of symptoms beyond the nose bleeds with low counts-purple dots or something to say "warning" would be appreciated :)

Haha, Camden's Haagen Daz diet sounds wonderful! I hope he makes both the weight and platelet requirements.
