Experience with Prednisone taper was created by EvansMom
Hi all! Evan has been doing well with his Prednisone treatment. After about 4 weeks at 60mg his counts gradually rose from 37 to 217. He has been on 50mg for 2 weeks now and his numbers have risen further to 257. His doctor is going to continue with the taper by 10mg at a time and monitor him. We are anxious for his moon face and acne to get better (difficult for a teenage boy) and are curious about what kind of results other young people saw during the taper and how quickly they noticed an improvement. Also were the side effects of the taper quite difficult? I have noticed Evan seems somewhat more irritable since starting the taper, and he has complained of a few minor things like occasional trouble sleeping and headaches. Just wondering what I should be expecting. Thanks for all your comments and advice over the past few weeks! Louanne

Louanne, can't really comment from parent or child perspective only from an adult that has done this but Evan probably feels pretty miserable. The best way to tell you what it is like to go through the taper is that for the first few days after the dose is decreased I felt like I had a really bad dose of the flu and your emotions are all over the place.

I didn't really get any relief from this until the dose was under 10 or 15mg. I hope this is all over for him soon. I hope this helps. Maybe one of the other parents will be able to tell you more.

There is no practice run in life.
