Danica's surgery date was June 7th. She spent three nights in the hospital. She just came home on Friday.

She had her gallbladder out at the same time (she had gall stones). She also had an accessory spleen. She has one incision just below her diaphragm, one at her belly button, and two on either side of that.

The surgery went well. She had IVIg on three separate days before the surgery. She still bled during the surgery, so they gave her blood.

She was really sore for the first two days, but was much better by the third day. She is still in quite a bit of pain, but is managing quite well.

She has very senstive skin, and reacted to the bandages that they put on, but thanks to good old Benadryl, that is resolving. (It also helps her to sleep).

I certainly hope that this will put her into remission.

We have to see her hematologist once a week for four weeks, and then once a month for three months.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Michelle - mom to Danica - age 13
Diagnosed 8-6-09
No response with Prednisone, WinRho or Rituximab.
over 60 IVIg infusions (every two weeks)
Three Decadron pulses - count was up while on the Decadron, and then fell as soon as it was stopped. SPLENECTOMY done 7-June-2011 Last count 594

I also have my fingers firmly crossed hoping that this is a blinding success for Danica. Let us know how things are going and good luck, Ali

Hi Michelle,

I have been thinking of Danica and wondering how her surgery went. I haven't been on here in a while. Glad to hear that her count went up - hopefully it stays that way for a long, long time!

Take care,
Shelly :)

Thanks Shelly -- things continue to look good. She has another blood test scheduled for this week. Her hemo says that her count should stay anywhere between 150 and 600. How sweet!!! So much better than 2!!
