Hello everyone,

I was just curious what count your Dr's consider safe for going to the dentist.

Thanks

Hi, I had three major surgeries last year and so long as counts where above 50 all Drs where ok, did have to go three hours to a major hospital with a large hemotology unit though as the Drs at the local hospital wouldn't operate unless I was above 100.
I am guessing dentist would be the same.

There is no practice run in life.

Good question......

I am taking Dougie to the dentist tomorrow morning cos the white filling from where he broke his teeth last year has come off. I will ask because I think Dougie is timetabled for a clean and polish. Its not been a problem before, but Dougie's only had simple check ups.

I hope that Devyn's doing ok, Ali x

Hi, Deanna,

I'm pretty sure that our pediatric dentist recommends a count of 50k for the regular cleaning/check-up. But for a couple of years when Brady needed regular treatments, I could never remember to coordinate the dental check-ups with his good counts. So, I know that we went to the dentist a couple of times with lower counts - more like 30k - and I would just mention the low platelets so that they wouldn't pry as much with that sharp pick-like thing that Brady hates! He would get a little bleeding, but nothing that rinsing his mouth a few times didn't stop.

Also - since Devyn is only 3 years old, I would think his dental check-up would be gentle anyway. And thanks for the reminder - I need to call for Brady's check-up!

Ok, we just went to the dentist quickly tonight to get a temporary filling - Dougie has to go back tomorrow to get the tooth fixed properly. When I asked, the dentist said that he would only be concerned if he were doing a scale and polish or an extraction. Other than that, he is happy at any count at all!
