Symmetrical small bruses on legs and arms

Does anyone have any experience of small (1/4 inch ish) bruises on arms and legs that seem to be symmetrical? There are not loads but enough for me to worry.
The background is that my daughter was diagnosed at 1 1/2 with ITP with a count of 10. It went up and down over the next year with no treatment and now seems to be in remission. Emily is now five. Ever since her diagnosis we have noticed terrible mood swings but could never get a medical person to understand. She still seems to me troubled by this but they no longer do blood tests as she is in remission and it was always very very traumatic for her. The latest down seems quite bad. She was absolutely great after christmas. A normal happy child. Full of energy. Funny and coped well with everything. All of a sudden at the end of last week she is crying at absolutely everything. She is grumpy and tired. She has shadows under her eyes and is just so different to before. This keeps happening but if I take her to the Dr they only see a child that is overall well and thriving and in a 5min appointment don't see what we have to live with that can really affect the whole family. I have given up with the Dr's trying to understand as I feel they just think I am making it up! I have noticed before when she is on a down she gets these small bruises but to be honest I have never really noticed if they were symmetrical. They are this time. She has no purpurra or pettichia and the bruises are not sore.
Does anyone else have any experience of this type of thing? I am at my wits end. When she is on a good spell I forget how awful it is when she is down.
Thanks so much.
Best wishes to you all, Fiona

Hi Fiona,
If it wasn't for this site I wouldn't have put the mood swings and counts together. My son is 5 and can have some horrid mood swings to lashing out or just being so sad in himself and crying he tends to say "Mummy I don't like feeling like this" but as yet doesn't know how to express himself any clearer. Like you I mentioned it to our consultant if this could be his ITP and was told no. I have two older children 20 and 16 and this is different. Take comfort as I did that this can be a part of the condition too many other people can agree with us that it surely isn't a coincidence. I find that I am more patient with Zac because it must be horrid feeling so confused.

Take care,
Nadia. :)

Have you had her counts checked? These all all symptoms that Timothy experiences when his counts are fluctuating, or dropping. Especially the fatigue, dark circles under the eyes, and the bruises that are not painful. His grandma has these symptoms too. The mood swings, holy cow! That is a big one for Tim. When he is out of remission, I want to run for the the caves in the biggest mountains. Wow.

I've been thinking about the "symmetrical" end of this and the only thing I can come up with is that she is putting pressure on the same spots on both sides of her body. Like sitting with legs crossed and heels on her thighs, or something like that. Crossing her arms and squeezing her skin.

My daughter doesn't have ITP, but years ago she had a bruise on her leg near her ankle that never went away. It was driving me crazy and I even had her counts checked, but they were fine. One day she was doing her dance routine and I noticed that she'd life her leg up over her head and grab that exact spot with her thumb. Mystery solved.

Watch how she sits, sleeps, plays, etc. You might get your answer.
