First test since diagnosis was created by Ashtonsmom
Feeling very nervous for Ashton's first blood test since she was diagnosed last week. I am hopeful that the lack of petachie and no major new bruising is a GOOD sign. Would be so thrilled to be over 20,000! Ashton is worried her arm will hurt since the bruising from last weeks tests, ( 9 tubes of blood in 2 days) really bruised up her arms. I worry that they won't heal fast enough between tests and it will be even harder on her as the weeks go by. I wish I could make this all go away. I feel so sad for all of you who have childern dealing with ITP chronically. Must be so hard on you and horrible for the children.

Try asking for a thumb prick (finger poke?) instead of getting blood taken from a vein. They can count the platelets with it, and its a lot less traumatic for the kids.

Remember, its symptoms that count more than numbers. If her symptoms are OK, thats good regardless of the count.

Good luck, and enjoy that holiday!

Ashton's test results came in! She is at 110,000! I am so relieved. The nurse said this is good news since she didn't have any treatments. I am so glad we waited to treat her. She said not to get too excited, they could go back down again, but I am happy for now and feel a lot better since we are now down at the beach on vacation. I plan on relaxing a bit and letting her have some fun!

Hey thats FANTASTIC! Its lovely to hear about a kid whose count did rebound almost immediately like that. Yes, of course, it might not stay there, but I would think that its a good sign that it has gone back up that far without treatment.

Get your bucket and spade out (or is that a uniquely British thing?) and hit that beach!

If you are going to do the British seaside thing, you need a "kiss-me-quick" hat too! And donkey rides, and candy floss. And then just to round off the whole experience, it has to start raining......

Things are still going well for Ashton, her platelets are up to 184,000 after this weeks test and we are now going to check her once a month for 6 more months. Still holding my breath that things stay on the upward trend! So thankful she is out of immediate danger and can be a kid. THINKING OF ALL OF YOU WITH KIDS WITH ITP and PRAYING THEY ALL STAY SAFE!
