Questions regarding n-plate was created by Shubh
Hi,
It will be 2 years for my daughter on nplate. She was diagnosed with ITP when she was 5 and she turns 8 in another 10 days.
Her nplate dose ranges from 7mcg to 9 mcg and keeps the count between 46k to 250k and we keep adjusting the dose within this range. Some questions pertaining to this -

1. Our hematologist is giving us the option to switch to promacta now. As, she has been going for her weekly injection and blood draws and it getting a little overwhelming for her now. But I am still not sure if I should switch to promocta or not?
2. Lately she has been having nosebleed almost everyday. Earlier she used to get nosebleeds when her counts dropped below 20 k and she had cold. We got her allergy test done and found out that she is allergic to dust mite and trees. Can allergy and ITP be correlated. What can I do to make the nose bleed stop? Took her to the ENT , they said her nostrils look a little irritated, gave her saline drop, asked to remove humidifier as it might help the dust mite grow, doing the Nedi pot to help her get over the blocked nose, doing Vaseline also giving her Claritin allergy medicine.Anything else that might help?

Looking forward to answers, recommendation and advise.

Thanks,
Shubh

You could give Promacta a try and if it doesn't work, just go back to N-Plate. The only way to know is to try it. The dose should be adjusted to keep counts around 50k.

Some people think that ITP and allergies are connected, but there really isn't any proof. They are both autoimmune though and sometimes if a person has one autoimmune disorder, they are more prone to others.

As for the nose bleeds, it looks like you are doing all that you can. My niece used to get them all the time when she was younger and they eventually stopped. Keeping her nose moist is the best thing to do.

Shubh, not sure I understand. You are thinking that removing the humidifier is causing frequent nose bleeds? Just some ideas about how to control dust mites and perhaps still use a humidifier...

Once upon a time, I thought I had a dust mite issue. Pretty sure I'm allergic to them. Read that they are so small water is a real survival problem for them. So, I would turn on the ceiling fan to dry them out. Usually for several hours or more before bed. Later, I put on a plastic slip on mattress cover. Long story short, dust mites were not an issue for me - but Gluten is.
