ITP and yeasty smell? was created by Clareykc
Over the last week I have noticed our 2 year old son (diagnosed 3 weeks ago, current platelet count of 6) occasionally has a yeasty smell in his underpants. I googled ITP and yeast and it came back with some information connecting ITP and candida overgrowth.
Has anyone heard of this? And in a small boy?!
I know it is early days for us and we should probably just be waiting for next week's blood test, but I can't help thinking of every possible reason for the ITP to have started and every possible alleyway we can go down to help him recover, whether that is silly or not!
Thanks for any information - it is a big help being able to post on here as I don't want to keep bothering our doctor.

If he is on prednisone that can cause the over growth of yeast. Otherwise I have no idea.

I don't think it's silly and it wouldn't hurt to have it checked out. Antibiotics can cause candidia and sugar can cause it to get worse. I don't know if it will fix the ITP, but he needs to get rid of the yeast if that is a problem.
