Hi,

My Son had internal bleed near his hip and 3-4 spots in his legs. We were asked to take a blood test and he had low platelet.

My son was admitted in the hospital with platelet count as 15000. On the same day another blood test showed 22000.

Pediatric Hematologist suggested for steroids and was injected in the vein and blood test was taken the next day. It is dropped to 10000 now.

Again they are trying for one more time with the steroid. Meanwhile to exclude other options they wanted to do Bone Marrow Diagnose.

Last 2 days has been really crazy... Unfortunately I am in United States now and they are in India.

1) Can anyone suggest is the process followed is correct?
2) I see lot of post that Children will improve automatically, when this will happen waiting to see it quickly.

Please respond.

Thank you,
Ashwin

Ashwin:

Steroids are often used as a treatment. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. Children are not always treated since serious bleeding is rare and treatments can have bad side effects.

Children often have acute cases of ITP and it can resolve in a few weeks or can take up to a year. After that, it is considered chronic but can still go away at any time.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

Ya you are right. As of now he is really active, but I am eagerly waiting for his platelets to shoot up. If not completely, atleast to the extend where he can be asusal and come out of hospital.

As it is still 10000 they are observing to ensure he does not have any bleeding.

I read another post of yours related to bone marrow diagnosis. But doctor is suggesting bone marrow now to see if the platelets are growing.

Don't know when he will become normal. Just praying for his wellbeing.

Thank you,
Ashwin
