Well..18 months later we needed to rush to urgent care. Bryan was running out of the room and smack into the doorway. Within 30 seconds it was huge..before leaving the house it was so black and purple :( We sat in urgent care for a few hours, they made sure he could keep down food and liquids and kept checking pupils and ect..We were released but told needed to do follow up first thing in morning and watch him carefully overnight..waking him up every few hours to make sure could answer our questions.

It was a long, terrifying night...I didn't need to set an alarm clock as I was awake the entire night!! In the morning the swelling had gone down and he was acting perfectly fine. Still took him to follow up with me all worried even though by actions you knew he was fine, I couldn't help but freak!!

I hate myself, wondering should I have tried treatment? Should he be in a helmet? Why
wasn't I right there to prevent it?

Well, he is doing fine, this has been my worst fear for a year and a half and he is OK.. I am not sure where to go from here...

His count was 18, the bump about the size of a golf ball, today it is all blistered (no bleeding when hit) oozing blood now..Dr more concerned about infection than bleed now (thankfully) well not that I want an infection..Oh you know what I mean right??

Crystal - don't beat yourself up. You said it yourself, he's fine. Accidents happen and you can't prevent them all. Kids are kids. For having ITP this long, he is doing pretty darn good if he's only had one close call. You are a good mother!

Crystal, I hope you are both feeling better now. It seems to me that you did just the right thing - Bryan had an accident (like all kids do sometime) and you sorted it. Don't beat yourself up!!! :P

Thank you both..Feeling better just hit me hard how fast things can happen, and be out of my control no matter how hard I try to keep him safe. I would honestly love to put him in a helmet, but I remember the reasons why we ditched it and he will not allow me to even come near him with it now. I guess now I know the few platelets he has work, and I will just do my best to try to avoid what I can..but as you both said kids will be kids!!

We had a episode like this also. My daughters eye swelled shut and turned black/purple and then a 1/4 of her entire face became a blood pool. Very scary and you do second guess yourself. Hopefully you can find ways to manage your peace. It's been tough for us. Keep it up...
