Hi my daughter Julia was diagnosed on Tuesday by the ER doc at Queen of the Valley, West Covina that she has ITP, she had Petechiae all over her legs and has begun developing larger bruises about 20+ on her body, mainly arms and legs. I spoke to the on-call Hematologist at Children's Hospital LA last night and she said as long as she isn't bleeding from her nose or gums she doesn't need to come into the ER that they will schedule an outpatient appointment for her in the coming week. Her bloodwork at the 1st ER said her platelet count was 3,000 and to keep her injury-free until she can be seen by a Children's Hematology specialist. I've been reading posts and articles on the site and I'm going to begin to adjust her diet today to get her more Vitamin D, K, C and Folic Acid, and just wanted to ask for any advice or tips on ITP. I guess the progression from a few sprinkled red spots on her bottom legs on Monday morning to dark bruising today is just freaking me out a bit, but if I could prevent a long stay at CHLA for her I am willing to try anything. *side note* Last October she slipped at school and hurt her hip within 2 days took her to Dr, then told to take her immediately to ER, after a few hours was told it may be a septic hip and sent to CHLA by ambulance, did ultra sound found fluid in hip joint, did biopsy showed an infection 2 hours later she had emergency surgery to remove the fluid and infection from her joint. Dr. Mason of Infectious Diseases recommended a long dose of antibiotics, they inserted a PICC line and had her on a high antibiotics for 5 weeks along w/weekly blood tests...after PICC was removed her bloodwork came back "normal" and she's overall been healthy until this passed week, so I'm just hoping this is the type of ITP that goes away and isn't a chronic condition but I guess I will have to wait until she sees the Hematologist at CHLA. Thank you again for any responses or advice until then. Sincerely Janette (Julia's Mom)
