When to go to the doctor?? was created by bell1138
My daughter 6 year old daughter went to the doctor last week and her counts were 130,000. I have an appt. this Friday with the hemo but today I found 4 red dots on her back. I don't know if I should take her to te doctor tomorrow or should I just wait until Fridays appt. I'm so stressed all the time I obsess over every little thing I see on her. Any suggestions? Should I go or wait??? The hemo told me to observe her and to take her if I noticed a lot of bruising or a lot of petichea..

I will not give you advice because I am new to ITP, however I got two new petichiae at 270 and I recently went from 180-ish to 200-ish right now with about five new petichiae.

In my case, I feel that I am just hyper-aware of bruises and petichiae, and I make myself more nervous than necessary. I am beginning to understand that petichiae are a concern for me when they begin to look rash-like.
In any case, a phone call to the doctor's office won't hurt if it will help put your mind at ease.

Best to you and your daughter.

It has to be your decision but personally I wouldn't consider 4 dots as anything to worry about. It doesn't constitute a lot of petechiae. If there was a lot of petechiae you'd notice immediately without looking for it. A lot means all over her legs or stomach or somewhere. The legs is a common place for it to start. She'd probably even notice it herself. Even then there's no need to panic. If I had an appointment in the same week I'd still wait until then unless there was real bleeding.

It is your decession, but I would not stress over 4 red dots. I would just Monitor it and wait until Friday's appt, unless more petechiae appears as Ann mentioned. Deep breath and RELAX!!! It will be fine.

I see it's been 2 days since you posted your question but I agree with the others. I've learned to relax and not freak out over every little spot. Now if there's blood or rash like petechiae, certainly take her. But if it's just 4 spots, I'd say relax. DanielaG is right, this diagnosis makes you hyper-sensitive to every little bruise and spot that comes up! I hope her appointment goes well!!

ITP definitely makes you hyper-aware of bumps, bruises, and petichiae. I used to find myself freaking out over bruises on my other children as well! Not that they have many... but I mean, even just one, I'd be like "uh-oh!"
