My 14 y daughter has ITP since October....

Hi my name is tina and my daughter is 14 and was diagnosised with ITP back in october of 2010...she has been in and out of the hospital getting IViG treatments but like most say it has only been a temporary fix....we go in/out of hospital about every 2 - 3 weeks....needless to say it has been hard on my daughter as im sure you know....doctors keep saying time...time....she is doing oral steriods of 20mg of prednisone but she is not feeling well and i worry so much.....they are talking about the once a week treatment for 4 weeks but now she has been diagnosed with with lupus and we have to see a rheumatologist.....is lupus from the ITP....is that common.....i just dont understand.....yes it is very frustrating and she gets so disappointed every time she has to go in the hospital.....i found this site a few months back but with work and her in the hospital and all....well i am sure you know.....

ITP can be a symptom of Lupus. I also have both. Most people with Lupus have a blood disorder at one point, whether it's platelets, red cells or white cells. Rituxan could be a good treatment to try as it can treat both, although the data shows that Rituxan doesn't do much for a majority of people with Lupus. It could put her ITP in remission though if she is responsive.
