My 2 1/2 yr old daughter was diagnosed with ITP almost 2 weeks ago. we seen a hematologist Thursday, who was very nice and seemed well educated. He said 85% of kids grow out of it but i am so worried that my child will be one of the 15% that doesnt :( But the major thing that scared me was he said in RARE cases when a child has leukemia, the only sign is low platelets. i am so just so worried. What if thats my babys case? Her red/white blood count is fine but im still scared.

The one thing I have learned in life is to not worry until you have to. If you spend time worrying, it might be for nothing and you lose a lot of time being happy.

Chances are, your child will be in the 85% of acute cases. If not, and she is chronic, you will see that many children with chronic ITP live happy, normal lives. Even chronic children can go into remission at any time, and a lot of them do.

If leukemia would come into the picture, which is very, very rare (as the doctor says), you would deal with it. Try not to worry about that for now and just focus on what you have in front of you. I've said this before, but I've been here since 1998 and have not yet seen a case of leukemia.

Everything will be okay.
