muscle and tendon problems

I can't fix this. My left calf muscle is constantly in a knot or it's twisted. It causes the bottom of my arch, my inner thigh and outside hip to feel the pain and tension. When I sit I feel the pressure on the back of my thigh and sometimes my foot feels pins and needles. My other leg is on the edge of doing the same thing but so far so good it hasn't gotten too bad.

I've had problems with tendonitis and ligaments in my past since I was very very young. Everything I do that involves muscle use hurts very quickly. I've been diagnosed with FM but does that explain the tendon and nerve pain?

I went to my family Dr and I started wearing compression stockings, helps but it's still bad. I go to reg massage and it gets a bit of relief but never goes away. This started getting bad last June when I started doing more excercise. I wish I knew what caused this and if I can fix it.

Has this happened to anyone that has some advise? Does anyone have a good map of the leg muscles so that I can try to massage it correctly?

as a runner, I know that low potassium levels can make your muscles cramp up. try adding bananas to your diet and see if the muscle aches continue. good luck

My husband is a personal trainer, and whenever my legs are in knots, he uses a roller on me - think I can find a link ...

www.amazon.com/Everything-Track-and-Field-Stick-Self/dp/B000671H8G

Helps me a lot ... works the knots out.

Very interesting, I forgot about potasium, I usually eat about 4 bananas a week, I'm so fussy I'm always looking for the perfect light green to slighly ripe. I think I'll look at some supplements. I also have always liked dried apricots, I can chew a few of those.

I think my massage therapist has used a slightly different roller on me and I usually have to get her to stop because it hurts so much. The one they're showing seems a lot thinner, it really works? wow. I think I can try that.

I looked up some info on potassium and am wondering if I flush too much of it away. I sometimes feel unusually thirsty, drink a lot of water and continually go to the bathroom. I've often thought there may be a problem with why some days I pee so much more than other days.

here's a link for potassium foods. Hopefully it's somewhat accurate. www.healthyeatingclub.org/info/books-phds/books/foodfacts/html/data/data5b.html

Thank you both for your suggestions, I think this might help.

Michelle - you migt want to have that checked. Mine is always low, no matter what I eat. OTC supplements barely do anything.

My doc (not my hemo) suggested to me more calcium. I think it would be good to have it checked.
Thinking of you next week - haven't been to the "Spa" since I saw you last. Christine :) :) :)

funny thing, my bf has the opposite problem, his body produces too much potassium. every once in a while he takes a pill to flush it out of his system.

Excellent leads Bunnie, thanks. I quickly read that the pain starts in the buttock etc. Mine doesn't. What I am beginning to understand better is that there is compression on the nerves. Hmmm. Lots to read, I'll have to look at it later, thanks again Bunnie, great drawings etc.

I agree that all the symptoms don't all line up and the typical symptoms are in the butt or upper outer thigh. I have mild Scoliosis that occassionally causes my hips to go out and I've experienced inflamation of the sciatic nerve more than once. If I don't get on it immediately the pain seems to move further down the leg and take longer to resolve. When I had my hysterectomy and was on the operating table in the stirrups with the table dropped they did a real number on my low back. They pain was the worst around the ankle and they had a physical therapist heat pack it in the hospital and it took a couple of weeks for the incision to heal before I could get a chiropractic adjustment. Good luck.

Nerve compression is fairly common. Have you seen a neurologist? I have ulnar nerve compression in both arms, but it's Lupus related due to inflammation.
