yesterday afternoon i don't know if i didn't see the curb or what but toe of rt shoe hit curb 1/2 way up from pavement and sent me flying - head hit rock planter/retaining wall, guess i put my left arm out to break fall. BLOOD pouring out of my head. long story short - an ambulance ride to the hospital. ED doc knew all about ITP as did the EMS team, a CT was ordered and thankfully NO BRAIN BLEED!! 3 staples to close that head wound. left shoulder broken.

Thank goodness the docs knew about ITP - it seems they are more and more are knowledgeable about it these days. For fear of "sounding preachy" this is why I wear a medic alert bracelet so if I am unconscious it speaks for me. All good wishes for a speedy recovery. Hugs and how are things in CO - one of my favourite states when visiting?

  • ITP since 2014. Retired nurse. My belief is empower patients to be involved as much as possible in their care. Read, read, read & ALWAYS question medics about the evidence base they use.

Not at all preachy.
As soon as it became obvious that my ITP was here to stay I was strongly advised by my Haemo to get bracelet or an SOS talisman around my neck.
I chose the latter as I have to be 'bare below the elbows' whilst at work.

not preachy christine. i do have one, usually wear it on a trip. been a drought down here in the plains, snowing all day today so that should help - colorado weather is crazy.

sandi i dont know my count - ct showed no brain bleed so no concern & on to stabilizing shoulder.
