I haven't had a chance to view your video but I have read the comments in the thread and I wanted to say that in the category of 'reminders to be kind' I would strongly recommended the brilliant Netflix-only series Derek by the equally brilliant Ricky Gervais. The hashtag descriptor for this series is #KindnessIsMagic. It is wonderful.

This is a great reminder that every life has a story and we don't always know that story, it is truly worth the time, thanks Melinda ❤️

I guess it kind of bothers me that it is assumed this is a reminder to be kind - it really isn't.

Going to the video it says:
Published on Feb 27, 2013

Patient care is more than just healing -- it's building a connection that encompasses mind, body and soul.

If you could stand in someone else's shoes . . . hear what they hear. See what they see. Feel what they feel. Would you treat them differently?

CEO Toby Cosgrove, MD, shared this video, titled "Empathy," with the Cleveland Clinic staff during his 2012 State of the Clinic address on Feb. 27, 2013.

But seeing this is also a great reminder to those of us not in the patient care field.

I am doing good Melinda, haven't had a platelet count for 18 months, I really don't worry about it so much anymore. My thyroid or lack of causes more problems but life could be so much worse. I still check in on you guys, just to make sure you all are ok. I hope you are doing ok.

OK I watched it. I agree with Sandi that it is a reminder to be kind. That people around you are all dealing with something and you can't know what. They could have done this video in a mall or a library or in an airplane or on a busy street, everyone is dealing with something.

I've been a patient at Cleveland Clinic and recently they were a client of mine, and I've been impressed with their quality of service.

Milly I'm tickled you haven't had a count in a year and a half - isn't that just the best feeling. Thyroids, I do not like them at all - I know exactly what you mean about it/lack of one causing more problems. I'm doing well as can be expected, thanks!

DeeDee Marie, Julia, Dru - glad you all enjoyed the video. It just says so much!

Dru hope your daughter is having a smooth recovery!

This video is aimed for those in health care - some do get hardened as the years go by - but the message really would be for all.

empathy
-The ability to understand and share the feelings of another

Melinda: I guess that is just how I saw it, can't help it. I try to remember to treat people kindly all the time for that very reason...you don't know what they are going through. I don't think it matters whether or not any of us know what is going on with someone else, people should always treat others respectfully, regardless. If someone cuts me off on the highway, I tend to give them the benefit of the doubt rather than the finger. I tell myself or anyone else in my car, that maybe their son just died, or someone they love was in an accident. Does it really matter how each of us sees it, as long as something positive comes from what you shared? A reminder to be kind is a pretty big deal.

I strongly believe that the fact I've had many medical issues growing up has made me a better nurse. Sometimes at work I get frustrated because a resident at work will say. You wait someday you'll be older and sick and blah blah blah (that is about when I block it out).

I always smile and just agree but sometimes I just want to say quit your complaining you lived 70-80 years of a healthy life before having a medical issue. Some of us deal with it all our lives so don't tell me I would never understand!!

I would never actually say that too a resident but this video says it all. We do not know about the person next to us. That person that seem rude or not noticed when you say hi! How do we know how does anyone know!
