I know you're in Canada but this is a US comment. It cracks me up that in the US they freaked out over lead paint in people's homes in the name of "the children" but it's okay to have a light bulb that has both mercury and lead in it and requires special clean up if one breaks in your home. Yep. There are some real dim bulbs making our laws. Good grief.

Yeah-

Thomas Edison's incandescent lamp, basically the same design for over 100 years. A wire heats up and glows. Simple, cheap, basic design. Why do we have to make everything so complicated and dramatic?

Having Lupus, I can tell you that fluorescent light bulbs are a huge worry to me. I'm unable to go to stores that have them (and most do). 10 or 15 minutes into the store and I feel like I have the flu and get very stiff and painful muscles. They literally make me sick and it doesn't go away when I leave. I don't go grocery shopping any more - my husband does. If I have to go to Walmart or Lowes, I do it on my lunch hour so I can hurry up and get out of there. If they would make those mandatory, I would really be in trouble.

It's not just how a Lupus person might feel when they are in those lights, it can also cause Lupus flares and antibody production. They are just as bad as sunlight is, which we also have to avoid.

Sandi they DID pass a law last congress in the US that phases out incandescents and makes it so only CFL's and LED's are allowed to be sold. It's one of the first laws on the chopping block right now. :-) Personally, we stocked up - just in case......

I've heard that, and don't see how they can go through with it. The Lupus Foundation should be, and probably are, fighting that.

Yeah, I never fuss and expect special treatment or considerations, but I think I would have to be vocal about this. I couldn't imagine having those in my home. I'd live in candle light.

This subject gets me sooo mad....... Has anyone ever seen a public service anouncement explaining how to dispose of these bulbs or anything? No....... This is dangerous stuff for the entire planet, all animal vegetable and mineral........

How many people are aware that we are not suppose to throw out batteries? I'm not just talking about car batteries, I'm talking about the ones we use every day in so many things.... I'd bet most people just toss them in the garbage......long term consequences? So what do you think is going to happen to most of these new light bulbs?

Can you imagine what twisted people or even kids can get into with these new bulbs? They can be smashed anywhere, they explode, they can be used to target innocents just for fun.. or revenge.

My blood pressure just went up again, I better go,

M
