We had a great day yesterday. Started off with a neighbour breakfast at our daughter & son in law's, something they have been hosting for 3 years. Croissants, fruit, coffee, etc. on the lawn.
Then . . we picked up Greg's American brother of 42 years, & his wife, from the airport. Bill is originally from Wisconsin, now Minneapolis, & was an exchange student here for 12 months in 1968. Hasn't been back since!
We have managed to contact all their school mates & are having a reunion on Sunday. What a hoot!
They have come from -27C to +36C ! Some beach time is definitely on the agenda !

Nice! Here in Massachusetts, we just had another big snowstorm, fourth during this year:) Yet another snow day. The beach is not exactly on my agenda here.

Hi Sandi,
We are truly blessed having our friends visit. They are lovely people.
Have been catching up with various family members & eating crayfish with Aussie wine!
Yesterday we went out in the boat & caught 40 fish & saw sea lions basking on the rocks. Then a swim & BBQ fish on the beach ( it was 40C).
Today we organised a school reunion of sorts, and several of Greg & Bill's class mates travelled for the afternoon. They had a great time reminiscing after 43 years, I found old school uniforms & photos, & we showed photos converted from old slides.
We are hoping to show them more of our beautiful countryside, but I think we may run out of time. The 'outback' begins 3 hours away, & I would love to have them sleep under the stars around a camp fire, but it's not safe to travel up there this time of the year due to high temperatures.

MJ, sounds like you've put a lot of effort into making sure your friends have a good time.

Australia is one place my husband would like to go to. Maybe if we actually make it, you could be our tour guide!

I'd love to go there too. I don't have much ambition to travel, but Australia is at the top of my list if I did.

Cindy, Sandi,
We love hosting people & over the years have made some wonderful friends from overseas.
3 years ago we befriended a young Spanish couple, living & working for a brief time in Adelaide. They visited our farm regularly & we them in the city, exchanging language & customs. We were invited to their wedding last August in Spain, but were unable to go. So, we look forward to the day when we can travel & spend some time with them, & of course our friends in the US.
If you ever manage to visit Australia I would be very happy to guide you away from the maddening crowds & suggest some great ideas for a brief stay. We are not all about Sydney Harbour bridge, Uluru & kangaroos, mate!

I visited Ballina a few years ago, it was the most beautiful place I've seen. North of Sydney, on the coast. I saw mudskippers and got fresh lychee at the store, and there were people hanggliding off cliffs.

My husband's company has international offices - from the time we married I told him I'd love it if we got transferred to Australia. He came home one night in 1989 and asked how I'd like to move to Tokyo - told him that's not Australia but ok. We moved to Tokyo and from there Hong Kong - fabulous experience!

Well - the last 3 weeks went very quickly & our friends have safely arrived back in Minneapolis this morning.
60 degrees weather variation, family, friends & school mates reunion, hugs, fishing, swimming, seafood, wine, hugs, touring around our beautiful coastal peninsula, shifting a mob of sheep between paddocks, 'happy hours', more wine, hugs . . Did I mention lots of hugs?
Had a few discussions on Rituxan as Bill has had treatment for leukemia recently.
We put them on the plane VERY early yesterday morning, back to farm & family - expecting another grandie any day soon.
