Erica, you're such a treat! Actually the dress was my "something old"- I wore it when I was a size eight, eleven years ago, as maid of honor at the wedding of a friend. It's been on a closet shelf ever since and when I tried it on I held out no real hope it would look good, since I was flat out tiny when I bought it. I was so excited that it fit (gotta love a healthy dose of spandex!) since I'm a size fourteen now, I still chuckle over it. Probably always will.
Jim proposed on the plane on the way into Lynchburg from China... I wanna say that was October 21st. We picked the date in early November and our friends really pulled it all together for us, I had a vision of what I was hoping for but what I got far surpassed anything I could have imagined. The venue was a place called the Appomattox Tea Room, basically the overflow space for a woman who owns an antique store. It's full of gorgeous china cabinets full of pretty things, and beautiful furniture, and tons of pretty glassware and dishes- and she only charges $300 for the facility, AND she let us in daily for about a week prior, to do the set-up!! We hired a friend to tend bar, other friends provided music, still others made most of the food, another did the flowers, and yet another got her online ordination to perform the ceremony! (Our horrifying State Attorney General outlawed acceptance of online ordination literally a few weeks before, little did we know... but yet another friend who is already licensed to perform weddings stepped in to provide the "by the power vested in me"s)- it was literally a ceremony of community love, it was just amazing. We are the luckiest people, so blessed to have found each other and this really special community of friends.
