Hi all,

I am newly diagnosed ITP 2 months ago. 34/F.
Platelet counts up and down with the lowest crashing to 8 these 2 mths. Dr prescribe dexamethsone and my platelets can go up to highest 100 but come down again after 2 weeks time.Recently I was on dexamethsone on 22/12 (for 4 days only) and when I test for platelets on 4/1 my platelets went up to 97! However today 6/1 - I noticed red spot and visit dr to test my platelets - it's falls to 12.5 only. Dr can't explained the reason why it falls so drastically and the only thing that happen to me is that my menses came after my blood test on 4/1. Looking back at the records, seems like my platelets kinda drop to the bottom whenever my menses come. Dr say is not related but I somehow have the feeling it is linked to it.

Just want to check if anyone experience the same as me and what could be done further?

Thanks in advance

This is something I'm looking into as well. I feel my dips are always at the same time of the month. Have you heard of Cyclic Thrombocytopenia? This is something I've been trying to research more, but haven't found a lot on. I will be talking to my hematologist more about this in February.

Hi Taz, thanks to respond. I havent heard of Cyclic Thrombocytopenia before. I spoke to my hematologist but he outright told me that there is no connection between the two. However, i felt that there is some link since he cant explain why the drastic fall in my platelets too. I will research more on Cyclic Thrombocytopenia and will speak to him again. Nonetheless, going for 2nd opinion as well. Please keep me posted if you have more information on this.

Thank you very much!

Your doctor told you your platelet count can't be related to your cycle? Mine told me hormones can most definitely play a role. Since I've been paying more attention the past few months, I've really noticed a correlation. I will definitely let you know if I find anything else out and what my hematologist says in February. Keep me posted as well!
