Count today 31K also say doctor and he wasn't concerned. I have birth control called in and waiting on me, I really don't want to be on anything else. The question is plus most of the BC you have to start on Sundays, so should I wait and see. Also big clots :( it started out slow then got to work and heart rate was up then it started to get more heavy (two pads in 9 hours). But if I'm chill and hanging around not much moving so not much going on.

Hello again! I just finished replying to one of your other threads.

I was about to post re: periods. My count was 13 on Monday and 47 today (steroids kicked in), but I'm still on day 11 of period (yawn).. It's generally light, but some clots too and like you, depends on how active I am. I'm on the combined pill and that wasn't stopping it either. I called my gp and he told me to go straight to A&E so I ignored him and spoke to my haematology nurse instead. She has prescribed Tranexamic acid 4 times a day just until it stops. It has already slowed massively and I'm only on my second tablet.

Why would you be recommended to start BC on a Sunday? Just curious :-)

Oh and just a random thought that might be worth noting whilst your counts are so low. Oestrogen is known to "thicken" the blood somehow - I don't know the full mechanics. On a combined pill I respond to prednisolone - 3 days at 15mg has taken my count from 13 to 47! Without the pill I do not respond AT ALL (60mg pred took my count from 1 to 4 in a week without the pill).

I can understand you don't want to take anything else and after your recent list of medications I don't blame you! But thought my story was worth sharing :-)

I haven't picked up the RX yet but looked at the instruction online and it says start day is Sunday? And I asked about Tranexamic Acid today and he has never used it in ITP???

Just glad to see that I am not the only one out there that is dealing with this female crap. I can deal with it but like I said don't really want to be on anything else and if I'm still bleeding come Sunday will go get RX and start them.

I can deal with the bleeding just as long as I am hanging around the house. It is worse at work when my heart rate goes up and I'm moving all around.

Tranexamic acid is definitely used in both ITP and heavy menstrual bleeding! Dougie is prescribed it if he has a run of nosebleeds and we ALWAYS get called in by the pharmacist who suspects a prescribing error as she can't understand why the dr is prescribing it for a 15 year old boy when her more usual customers are middle aged women with heavy periods :laugh:

Its been a while since he used it but I think he is only allowed to take it for 3 days at a time since it has a risk of blood clots. Works a treat for nosebleeds though :cheer:

My periods were so bad I lost almost all the iron in my system and had to get iron infusions 3 times. I wanted to have the ablation done but my counts weren't high enough. I ended up with the Mirana IUD. I hardly bleed at all. It's good for 5 years. I highly recommend it!

infusion center said I was 2k then when to doctors office 13k WTH.... Just called family doctor again and waiting for call back, I have to go to bathroom every hour and I am at work,,,,,

I remember one awful day right at the beginning, where I'd been in the supermarket 10 minutes and had to go home. Going to the loo all the time is no fun!

Maybe chat to your doctor again about tranexamic acid? Especially if the BC doesn't stop it - it hasn't stopped mine this time around. The T acid tablets have kicked in though & I reckon I'll stop taking them tomorrow.

The Tranexamic is to $$$ and have no insurance, just took my first BC at 2pm. Sure hope the BC helps!!!! Being at work doesn't help also..... :(

I went ahead and picked up Tranexamic acid, I can't deal with having to go to the bathroom every hour or so. I have taken the BC and took the TA when I picked it up after work. Will take another one when I get up then lunch and dinner. Just have to remember to take BC at 2pm.
