success with mastic gum

Just a quick note to update the board as I now consider myself ITP disorder free.

I developed ITP 2.5 years ago. After extensive testing, no reason was found. My platelets were consistently between 20,000 and 30,000. I was okay at when at 30,000 but felt very tired and unwell when below 25,000.

After researching on the internet and PDSA board, I found information on H. Phylori bacteria as a possible cause. I got tested and found that I was positive. I requested antibiotic treatment. While I thought the treatment had helped, I still had low ITP numbers and wasn't sure I had gotten rid of H. Pylori or whatever other microcrobes were out of balance in my gut. I read about mastic gum, which has no real side effects, and went on it for 2 months. The results were amazing. After three months my platelets were way up. After 6 months my platelets were in the normal range. One year later my platelets are 245,000, which is around the level they always were for me before I got ITP.

I encouraged several members of my family to go on mastic gum for a couple of months. They too had tested positive for H. pylori bacteria. Everyone did well. My stepson, 20, whose breath was terrible, had a complete reversal of that condition.

Can't say enough about this alternative approach, whose use for stomach ailments dates back to the greeks.

What dosage and form of mastic gum did you take? Was it an actual chewing gum?

I have to tell you that a month ago I had a recurrence of ITP. I thought H. Pylori was back but the breath test came back negative. I am still thinking to go on Mastic gum again though in case it is another stomach organism that is causing the ITP. And from my perspective being clear of it for a couple of years was a blessing.

I can't remember what I took last time. I think I was on 2 to 4 pills per day for 2 or 3 months. I think you shouldn't be on it longer than 3 months (yikes or may that was weeks - I can't remember).

I noticed this protocal (below) and am thinking to go on it.

Mastic Gum Extract, 500 mg. capsules,

Week 1: take 2 in the morning on an empty stomach at least one hour before breakfast for one week.

Week 2: Up the dosage to 4 per day, adding 2 in the afternoon on an empty stomach.

Week 3: Up the dosage to 6 for a total of 6 grams per day, adding 2 in the evening on an empty stomach (2 hrs. after dinner, one hour before bed.)

Thanks for the info. My wife has ITP and I've noticed very bad breath during her recent dip in platelet count. Seems like it's worth a shot.

I'll try this out as well, I had H Pylori in March 2011 - and found out my platelets were slightly decreasing but was told that it could be a "normal" decrease. Anyways, I managed to kill it with some antibiotics as told by the doctor and then had a recheck in oct 2012 and results were negative. I still to this day believe I have something in my stomach because just hovering my hand over my stomach, I feel this burning sensation. I'll see how it goes with it
