I know we all are dealing with depression and anxiety. I take xanax for the anxiety and ideas for the depression. I'm seeing an herb doctor once a week, but looking for ITP people input, St.John's Wart say it can decrease your platelets.

Thanks for any help.

I also had depression/anxiety. Had good luck with Celexa, but that is the one you were on, right? I am off the Celexa now and am doing fine.

Amber, do you feel you can handle the depression without treatment? What symptoms are you experiencing?
There are many antidepressants.
SSRI's are considered safer and generally have fewer bothersome side affects; Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, Celexa and Lexapro. The most common side affect of these is of the sexual nature. Other side affects may go away as your body adjusts to the medication.
SNRIs; Cymbalta, Effexor and Pristiq have similar side affects as SSRIs.
NDRIs; Wellbutrin at higher doses may increase the risk of seizures.
MAOIs; Parnate and Nardil are considered a last resort as they can have serious or harmful side affects.
There is also Trazodone and Remeron, which have a sedating affect and are generally taken at night, as they aslo help with sleep. I was perscribed Trazodone for my sleeping issues.
Did you notice any improvement with the depression while taking Celexa? It can take up to 4 weeks for Celexa to kick in. Yes, the side affects of these medications are scarey, but you have to also consider the risks of not treating the depression. Depression left untreated can really spiral out of control, which affects you mentally and physically. There is no way of knowing if Celexa triggered your ITP. Personally I do not think so. I thought I could deal with my depression and control it without medication, but that was not working. It slowly got worse. Depending on your depression symptoms, you might need to consider another medication for depression. I assume Celexa is not an option anymore. Have you tried Psychological thearpy for depression?
I hope you are able to overcome the depression Amber.

My husband is on an SSI Zoloft, I can deal with the depression since I have xanxa which helps. It also helps with headackes and pain. So thats really the only thing I've been taken.

I've been on Cymbalta for a while.

I would always highly recommend "talk" therapy. If you have any close friends, ask for recommendations, it can take a while to find the right person or ask for a recommendation from your PCP.

On pages 19-20 it says to stay away from SSRI's? They only reason I'm bring this up is the depression has gotten worse and I think its time for medication. I'm off for the next 5 days and I don't want to go anywhere or do anything. I can't get enough sleep wake up more tired than when I went to bed. My husband has manic depression and me being depressed isn't healthy for him or me. I just don't know what to do I just want to cry.
