Questions to ask Naturopathic Doctor 1st Visit

Hi,

I have an appointment booked this week for my first naturopathic doctor's visit. Basically, I know I am looking for an approach to increase my platelets naturally and to find out if there are any underlying conditions (Candida overgrowth, food sensitivities, etc) that may be triggering this.

Any advice on what questions I should ask or be aware of when visiting for the first time? I want to make sure I get the most bang for my $ and give the correct information.

They will probably tell you they don't treat ITP but rather the whole body. They feel once they get the body in alignment and everything functioning well - then other problems tend to fix themselves. If they write you a prescription at a homeopathic pharmacy, call the pharmacy and get the cost before buying any herbs or supplements that go with that drug. My homeopathic doctor called me in a prescription for homeopathic drugs that were $1000 plus he wanted me to spend another $300 in other supplements.

I was very surprised at the results of some of the test he did. He knew about health problems that I failed to mention. The results were quite accurate.

Don't dye your hair before your appointment. A hair follicle test (if he has you do one) requires 30 days with no chemical treatment to hair. And if you are on prednisone it can mask results from a food allergy test, so you will need to be off predinsone for that test to be as accurate as possible. Taking prednisone should not keep you from your first visit to the naturapathic or homeopathic doctor. You can go ahead and get a head start on other issues.

I do not know which questions you should ask. It seems to me there are no guarantees and what has worked for one ITP patient doesn't always work with the next. It is a very individual process.
