Dougie is due to go skiing on 10th February. His count from IVIg is down to 77 yesterday and both the doctor and us have agreed that it wouldn't be sensible to do it again because the side effects were horrible.

The doctor says he will only approve him going if his count is over 20 that week, and if so he will give him steroids (that he is not very responsive to) to make him safer. Me and the consultant had a long discussion about how high his count would be to be safe, and on the basis that he will be a supervised beginner with a helmet on at all times, this was his minimum. Dougie's only been on steroids very briefly before this, but he didn't have any noticeable side effects from them when he was.

Trouble is that Dougie's count isn't often over 20......... Has anyone got any suggestions????? Dougie is just desperate to go.

I would like to share qith you that my daughter has ITP since April last year. Medications worked well on her, but once she did not take them her platelets went down again. Since about two months she has been taking a natural treatment. The specialist actually recommended it ´cause it does work. So far she is not taking medication anymore and her platelets level is stable at a normal range. If you would like to know the name of this product you can write me to begis7@gmail.com Good Luck!!!

As long as you don't have a financial interest in the product it should be ok for you to post information about what you used that was effective (or ineffective, that is helpful to know too.)

Considering you girls said I can share my experience naming the product that we had used I continue my story....

We began this journey in April last year...at the end of december my daughter started showing purple dots & bruises again but the doctors´appointment was not due yet. So, I began searching about natural treatments on internet. I found information about two important products that can be used: omniplus & Achillea millefolium.

Her platelet´s level was 17.000. So, in early january we asked the doctor about omniplus (Omnilife), and she recommended us to use it, because eventhough she can´t prescribe it to us, she has observed some patients responded well to it.. that same day my daughter was on medication (prenidsona) and omniplus, which actually reduces all the secondary effects that the medication causes. Two weeks later her platelets were 278.000, so the doctor asked us to progresively take her off the medication...two weeks after her platelet count was 273000 and she keeps taking omniplus every day and she feels so good. At the place that I bought it the firts time, the seller told me that her daughter had ITP 4 yrs ago. She gave her omniplus for two months and it was enough for her to recover. Since then, she has been healthy.

I have not tried the other product, the plant called Achillea Millefolium that I believe you can find in the US as a tea beverage. It has research that supports it´s effectiveness by experiments made by a Mexican doctor, you can download the article here (in spanish) scielo.sld.cu/scielo.php?pid=s0864-03002003000100010&script=sci_arttext

I actually shared this article to my daughter´s doctor. :cheer:

more info about Achillea millefolium can be found at:

I hope this info will help your children too.

Good Luck!!!
