Let me preclude this article with the statement that I am a huge Vitamin fan. I buy lots of them individually because I have many issues with low Vitamin levels. I was disappointed to read about this, but wanted everyone to be aware of it.

That's interesting Sandi, as I don't take Vitamin supplements unless a doctor suggests it and they usually write down what brand for me to get.

It also is a worry when you have to take folic acid with the methotrexate. The one I take the doctor wrote a script for and told me only to take that particular one.

There is no practice run in life.

Supplements are not regulated Sandi so this I can't say is a surprise to me - we've been telling people here for how long that supplements aren't regulated so what is on the label might not be what is in the tablet/pill/capsule/vial/bottle? So like I said, no surprise to me.

No real surprise to me either, I've said it for years too. I always thought though that big brands like GNC were probably safe, and maybe they are, but I'm questioning it a lot more now.

Milly - I have prescription folic acid too because of the MTX, but I also take iron, B-12, magnesium, potassium, B-6, prescription Vitamin D, and E.

Thanks for sharing the article, Sandy. I take Women's One A Day vitamins (I was taking Kirkland for a while). The main reason I take this brand is because the Vitamin B in the pill keeps the nats and mosquitoes from biting me. I'm allergy to pure Vitamin B--so this has just enough to keep them off of me. For the last 7 years, this has worked for me. When I did take the Kirkland brand, the bugs were still bitting me.

I could start a vitamin and supplement business in my garage. I could sell just about anything I wanted, on line, call it a vitamin or treatment, and would only get caught if someone actually analyzed my product.

It's this kind of bad behavior that harms the reputation of honest vitamin and supplement companies that self-regulate their products. I can't fathom why this is not regulated: Automobiles, electronics, prescription drugs, building codes, and hundreds of other products, all have to jump through hoops and comply to codes up the () to be safe. Why not vitamins and supplements? I can't understand that. Some field-rodent somewhere is probably more protected by environmental laws protecting it's habitat, than we are assured that we are actually getting that dosage of vitamin we need.

More scary stuff:

Thanks Tad for showing us the site on vitamins. I did check it out. The first vitamin that showed up was the "One A Day" that I take; though, it didn't say anything really bad--just to make sure that you don't take mega doses of certain vitamins.

Thanks again for sharing.
